Fifty-payline slots spread every spin across fifty winning lines, so small wins land often while the RTP, volatility and top win stay with each game. Most famous 50-line games are Aristocrat and IGT classics; Play'n GO's Coywolf Cash is the modern one, at 96.31%.
Fifty paylines were the house style of the big land-based cabinet games of the 2000s, and most 50-line slots online are those classics from Aristocrat and IGT. Play’n GO’s Coywolf Cash is the modern exception and the strongest payer of the group at 96.31%. Merlin’s Millions Superbet has the highest ceiling, 10,000x, while Miss Kitty and Wild Wolf trade big wins for a steadier ride.
Five 50-Payline Slots Players Know
| Game | Studio | RTP | Volatility | Top win | Reels x rows |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coywolf Cash | Play’n GO | 96.31% | Very high | 4,000x | 5×3 |
| Merlin’s Millions Superbet | NextGen (Light & Wonder) | 95.63% at the top Superbet level, 95.08% without it | High | 10,000x | 5×4 |
| 50 Lions | Aristocrat | 94.71% | Medium-high | About 1,000x the line bet | 5×4 |
| Miss Kitty | Aristocrat | 94.76%, or about 95.42% in a newer build | Medium | About 100x to 200x | 5×4 |
| Wild Wolf | IGT | About 93.9% to 94.97%, by build | Medium | About 1,000x the line bet | 5×4 |
Coywolf Cash came out in 2020 and plays on a smaller 5×3 grid, with a Wild Reel and Prey Free Spins on top of its fifty lines. Its volatility is as high as the scale goes, so most sessions end far short of the 4,000x top win. The 96.31% is the setting Play’n GO ships by default; casinos may choose 94.30% or, at the bottom, 84.25%.
Merlin’s Millions Superbet is built around its Superbet, five levels that raise the stake in return for wild multipliers of up to 10x. The 10,000x ceiling and the 95.63% return both belong to the top level, which costs several times the base bet. Played plain, the game returns 95.08%, and every Superbet step adds to the swing.
50 Lions started on Aristocrat’s land-based cabinets around 2002 and was followed by 50 Dragons and Miss Kitty in the same mould. The stacked lions in its free spins are what people come back for; its 94.71% return is below what most newer slots pay, and listings put its volatility at medium-high or high.
Miss Kitty, from 2011, gives its free spins sticky wilds and keeps its volatility at medium. The top symbol pays around 100x a line, so it suits long, even sessions more than the hunt for one big hit.
Wild Wolf from IGT is the plainest of the five: stacked wilds, a free-spins round that can retrigger, and a return that depends on which build a casino runs. It is close to a copy of IGT’s 40-line Wolf Run, which makes the pair a handy test of what ten extra lines are worth.
What Fifty Lines Do to a Spin
Fifty lines change how a stake is split and how often a win shows up. They do not change what the game pays back, which is still its RTP.
A £1 spin across fifty lines puts 2p on each one. That sets the minimum stake a little above most 10- or 20-line games, usually between £0.10 and £0.50 depending on the studio: Coywolf Cash starts at £0.10, and Merlin’s Millions Superbet higher. 50 Lions and Wild Wolf once let players switch some lines off on their cabinets; their online versions keep all fifty on, as the other three do.
With so many lines in play, a lot of spins pay something on one or two of them, but less than the stake. A £1 spin that returns 30p lights up as a win and still costs 70p. These part-wins come more often on fifty lines than on twenty, so the balance is a truer guide to a session than the win animations.
The rest stays with each game’s own maths. Volatility comes from the symbol mix and the pay table, the top win from the pay table and the features, and the long-run cost from the RTP. A 50-line game at 95% costs the same per £100 staked as a 20-line game at 95%.
50 Lines or 40 Lines?
The step down to 40 lines changes less than the numbers suggest: ten fewer ways to form a line win and a slightly lower minimum stake. IGT’s two wolf games show it plainly. Wolf Run has 40 lines and Wild Wolf has 50, and with the same symbols, features and 5×4 grid they return about 94.98% and 94.97%, at much the same volatility.
Where the 40-line group pulls ahead is at the top. Four Leaf Fortune returns 97.70% and Wild West Gold 96.51%, both above every 50-line game here, so someone choosing on RTP gains nothing from the extra ten lines; the full set is on the 40 paylines page.
The Hourly Cost of 50-Line Play
At a brisk 600 spins an hour, the two ends of this group are Coywolf Cash at 96.31% and 50 Lions at 94.71%. Each cell is the stake × 600 × the house edge, the share of every stake the game keeps over time.
| Stake per spin | Coywolf Cash, 96.31% | 50 Lions, 94.71% |
|---|---|---|
| £0.10 | £2.21 | £3.17 |
| £1.00 | £22.14 | £31.74 |
| £2.00, the most a player aged 18 to 24 may stake | £44.28 | £63.48 |
| £5.00, the most from age 25 | £110.70 | £158.70 |
Both games have fifty lines, so the £48 gap at a £5 stake comes from the 1.6-point difference in RTP alone. These are averages over many hours, and with volatility in this group running from medium to very high, a single hour can land a long way from them. A casino running Coywolf Cash at a lower setting such as 84.25% would cost more again.
The UK limits apply to the whole spin, not to each line. Some of these games took far bigger stakes elsewhere, Merlin’s Millions Superbet well over £100 at its top Superbet level, but at UK-licensed casinos all fifty lines together stay within the £5 or £2 limit.
Who Enjoys 50-Line Slots
The natural audience is anyone who likes the classic cabinet style: stacked wilds, free spins with a twist, and the busy rattle of fifty lines paying small amounts. The dated look and returns under 96% come with that package. Several of the five are animal games, and more in the same vein sit on our animal slots and classic and retro slots pages.
Players after a big top win have two real options here, Merlin’s Millions Superbet and Coywolf Cash, and both ask for it in a different way: a pricier bet in the first case, very high volatility in the second. For a gentler ride, Miss Kitty’s medium volatility is the closest match.
The one 50-line review in our own catalogue so far is Yummy Mummies, a Stake Engine game from Knucklehead Syndicate that pays on 50 bet ways. It runs at Stake, which does not take UK customers.
