UK slot rules in brief

What changes when a slot runs at a casino licensed by the Gambling Commission.

Stake limits

Online slot stakes are capped at £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over (from 9 April 2025) and £2 per spin for players aged 18 to 24 (from 21 May 2025). GB-licensed casinos apply the cap whatever bet range the studio builds into the game.

RTP versions

Studios often release one slot in several RTP versions, and each casino chooses the version it runs. The figure that applies is the one in the game's own help or paytable screen at that casino.

Bonus buy

In January 2020 the Gambling Commission had GB-licensed operators remove paid feature buy-ins from slots, citing social-responsibility concerns. Studios still build the option for other markets, so a review may describe it.
