RTP Bands in the Catalogue
RTP (return to player) is the share of all stakes a slot is designed to pay back over a very large number of spins; many slots sit around 96%. The table groups the reviewed slots into whole-number RTP bands, with the count and a few examples for each.
| RTP band | Slots | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| 96% RTP | 67 | Book of Dead, Starburst, Gates of Olympus |
| 97% RTP | 7 | White Rabbit Megaways, Big Bass Boom, Four Leaf Fortune |
| 98% RTP | 10 | 1429 Uncharted Seas, Big Bass Rock and Roll, Sugar Twist 1000 |
| 99% RTP | 3 | Mega Joker, Book of 99, Ugga Bugga |
Many slots ship in more than one RTP version, so the figure at a given casino can be lower than the studio's headline. The game's help panel shows the version that applies.
Slot Reels — How Grid Sizes Affect Gameplay
3 Reels — Classic Slots
Three-reel slots keep the fruit-machine format: bells, sevens, BARs and a handful of paylines, often on a 3×3 grid. See Classic Style slots for the wider theme.
5 Reels — Industry Standard
Five reels became the standard layout for video slots, usually on a 5×3 or 5×4 grid that pays on fixed lines, 243 ways or 1,024 ways.
6 Reels — Megaways and Pay Anywhere
Most Megaways games run on six reels, each showing two to seven symbols, so the number of ways to win changes every spin, up to 117,649. Other six-reel slots, such as Pragmatic Play's Gates of Olympus, use a 6×5 grid that pays for eight or more matching symbols anywhere on it. See Megaways slots.
7 Reels — Cluster Grids
Seven-reel slots are usually 7×7 cluster grids, such as Play'n GO's Reactoonz and Pragmatic Play's Sugar Rush, where groups of touching symbols pay instead of lines. See Cluster Pays slots.
Other reel counts have their own pages too: 4 Reels.
Paylines vs Ways — How Wins Are Calculated
Paylines are fixed patterns across the reels: a win needs matching symbols along one of them, usually starting from the leftmost reel. Counts run from a handful of lines on classic slots to more than a hundred on some video slots; 10, 20, 25 and 50 are common on a 5×3 grid.
Ways to win drop the fixed patterns: matching symbols on adjacent reels pay from left to right in any row. Five reels of three rows give 243 ways (3×3×3×3×3) and five reels of four rows give 1,024. Megaways changes the number of symbols on each reel every spin, up to 117,649 ways on six reels of seven symbols. See Megaways slots and 243 Ways.
Paylines or ways do not set a slot's return or volatility; the maths model does, so two games with the same layout can play very differently. The RTP and, where the studio rates it, the volatility on each review are the figures to compare. See 10 Paylines, 20 Paylines, 25 Paylines and 50 Paylines.
What the GB Stake Caps Mean for Max Wins
Casinos licensed in Great Britain cap online slot stakes at £5 per game cycle, in practice per spin, for players aged 25 and over (from 9 April 2025), and at £2 for players aged 18 to 24 (from 21 May 2025). The higher bet ranges on studio pages do not apply at these casinos.
A max win is quoted as a multiple of the stake, so the cap sets its cash ceiling. At the £5 cap a 1,000× slot can pay up to £5,000 and a 10,000× slot up to £50,000; at the £2 cap those become £2,000 and £20,000. Some games and casinos also set a cash cap on a single win.
