Seven Columns, Forty-Nine Squares
A 7-reel slot today almost always means a 7×7 grid: seven columns and seven rows, forty-nine symbols at once. The columns do not spin like ordinary reels. Symbols drop into the grid, groups of matching symbols that touch each other pay and burst, and new ones fall in to fill the gaps.

Gemix’s top win shows up as 4,513.5x on most listings but as 6,025x or 1,500x on others, so we leave it out. Gemix 2 is called anything from medium to high volatility, even though Play’n GO places it near the top of its own volatility scale.
Gemix
Play’n GO’s first cluster game from 2014, and the gentlest of the six. You travel through a series of worlds, each with its own wild, and move on by clearing patterns on the grid. Most listings rate it medium volatility, and its 96.83% default is the highest here, with lower versions down to 84.90%.
Fruit Party 2
The sequel replaces random multipliers with wilds. A winning cluster can leave a 2x wild behind, and each time it is part of another win in the same tumble chain its multiplier doubles, up to 256x. In the free spins, ten to twenty-five of them, wild multipliers start at 3x and can climb to 729x. Pragmatic Play lists 96.53%, the highest of its three games here.
Reactoonz
Play’n GO’s 2017 alien grid charges a Quantum Leap meter as symbols burst. Each charged section fires one of four Quantum features that reshape the grid, a random Instability event can drop four to eight wilds even on a losing spin, and filling the meter brings the Gargantoon, a giant 3×3 wild that splits into smaller wilds as it pays. There are no free spins. The default return is 96.51% and the top win 4,570x. Our Reactoonz guide has more on the meter.
Sugar Rush
Clusters of five or more sweets pay, and every winning position is marked on the grid. A second win on a marked spot adds a multiplier that starts at 2x and doubles each time, up to 128x. In the free spins, ten to thirty of them depending on the scatter count, the marked spots and their multipliers stay for the whole round. Pragmatic Play lists 96.50%. Fruit Party
Pragmatic Play’s original 7×7 fruit game. Any symbol in a winning cluster can randomly turn into a 2x multiplier, and multipliers in the same cluster multiply each other up to 256x. Three or more scatters bring ten free spins, where multipliers land more often and can be 2x or 4x. It returns 96.50%. More fruit reels are on our fruit slots page.
Gemix 2
The 2021 sequel takes you through four worlds, each with its own characters and modifiers, and adds a Super Charge feature with multipliers up to 20x, against 3x in the original. That is why its ceiling rises to 7,500x. Like the first game it has no free spins. The default is 96.26%, with settings as low as 84.26%.
How Clusters Replace Paylines
On a 7×7 grid there are no lines to follow. A win is a group of matching symbols touching up, down, left or right, usually five or more. The winning group then disappears, the symbols above drop down, and new ones fall in, so one paid spin can produce a chain of wins.

Three Ways to Grow a Multiplier
The Pragmatic games share a grid but build their multipliers differently. Sugar Rush ties them to positions, so a spot that keeps winning keeps doubling. Fruit Party attaches them to symbols at random. Fruit Party 2 puts them on wilds that come back and grow through a tumble chain, and in the free spins starts them at 3x with room to reach 729x.
The free spins rounds on these three are where most of the big wins come from. GB versions do not offer a way to buy into them, so the scatters are the only route in. Reactoonz and both Gemix games skip free spins altogether and rely on features charged during play.
Five Settings for the Same Reactoonz
Reactoonz comes in five versions: 96.51%, 94.51%, 91.49%, 87.50% and 84.51%. Over 600 spins at £1, that is an average of about £21 an hour on the top setting and £93 on the lowest.
At the £5 limit for players aged 25 and over, the gap widens to about £105 against £465 an hour, and at the £2 limit for players aged 18 to 24, about £42 against £186. The grid, symbols and features look identical on every version, and only the information screen shows which one you are on. A single session can still end far from these averages.
